Baie aux Huitres

Baie aux Huitres (Oyster Bay) is a beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay on the southeast coast of Rodrigues Island. Its calm, crystal-clear turquoise waters and white-sand beach make it one of the most scenic spots on the island. The bay is also the main departure point for boat trips to Île aux Cocos, a protected nature reserve.

Baie aux Huitres is 5 km southeast of Port Mathurin. Taxi from Port Mathurin costs around MUR 250.

The bay is compact and easily explored on foot. Boat trips to Île aux Cocos can be arranged at the beach.

Several guesthouses and self-catering bungalows are available near Baie aux Huitres (MUR 1,500–3,000 per night).

Small shops near the beach sell drinks, snacks, and basic supplies.

Port Mathurin (5 km northwest) — capital town. Mourouk (8 km south) — surfing beach on the south coast. Île aux Cocos (15-minute boat ride) — protected seabird sanctuary and pristine beach.
