Goodlands

Goodlands is a bustling market town in the Rivière du Rempart District and the largest commercial centre in northern Mauritius. It has a large covered market that draws shoppers from across the region. The town has a significant Chinese-Mauritian community and celebrates the Chinese Spring Festival with lively parades and firecrackers.

Goodlands is 15 km northeast of Port Louis. Buses from Port Louis, Grand Baie, and Centre de Flacq serve the town frequently.

The market area and town centre are compact and walkable.

Goodlands Market is the main attraction — a large covered market selling fresh produce, clothing, textiles, spices, and household goods. The Chinese pagoda and the local church are also landmarks.

Shop at the market for the best local experience. During the Spring Festival (January/February), the town comes alive with celebrations.

The town has a wide range of restaurants and takeaways serving Creole, Indian, and Chinese food.

Cafés and market stalls sell coffee, tea, soft drinks, and alouda.

Goodlands has limited accommodation for tourists. Most visitors stay in Grand Baie (8 km north) or coastal areas.

The market is excellent for textiles, spices, vanilla, fruit, and affordable clothing.
