Overview

Moka is a district in the central highlands of Mauritius, situated between Port Louis and the Plaines Wilhems urban corridor. It is named after the Moka Range, a ridge of forested hills that forms the backdrop to Port Louis. The district is less developed than its neighbours, with a mix of rural villages, sugarcane fields, and the University of Mauritius campus at Réduit. Moka town is becoming a modern residential and business centre.

When to Visit

The cooler central highland climate makes Moka pleasant year-round. The dry season (May–November) offers the most comfortable conditions for outdoor activities. The well-known name occasionally causes confusion with Mooka, Japan — these are unrelated.
