About Cluny

Cluny is a small inland village in the northern part of the Grand Port District, located near the boundary with the Plaines Wilhems and Moka districts. It sits at the foot of the central plateau, surrounded by green hills and sugarcane fields. The village is named after the Scottish town of Cluny, reflecting the British colonial heritage of the area.

How to reach

Cluny is on a secondary road, approximately 12 km north of Mahébourg and 8 km south of Curepipe. Buses from Curepipe and Mahébourg serve the village on a limited schedule. A taxi from Curepipe costs around MUR 300.

The village is very small and easily explored on foot. For travel to Curepipe, Mahébourg, or other destinations, local buses and taxis are available.

Things to do

The surrounding landscape of rolling hills and sugarcane fields is the main attraction. The village church is a small community landmark. The area offers scenic views of the central plateau escarpment.
