Fassala

Hodh ech Chargui, Mauritania

Why visit Fassala?

Fassala is a small settlement in the far southeast of Hodh ech Chargui, close to the Malian border. It is a minor border crossing point and a centre for the surrounding pastoral communities. Like Bassiknou to the east, Fassala is a remote Sahelian outpost with minimal infrastructure. It is not a tourist destination in itself but may be passed by travellers crossing between Mauritania and Mali via the southern route through the Hodh region.
