Loulouni is a small town and the seat of a rural commune in the Cercle of Kadiolo, in Mali's Sikasso Region, about 41 km north-northeast of Kadiolo on the RN7, the main road between Sikasso and Ouangolodougou in Côte d'Ivoire. It lies close to Mont Tenakourou, on the border with Burkina Faso and that country's highest point. The commune covers about 1,052 km² and includes the town and 28 villages, with a population of roughly 38,900 at the 2009 census.
