Yanfolila is a town and the seat of both the Yanfolila Cercle and the Wassoulou-Ballé rural commune in Mali's Sikasso Region, about 272 km west of Sikasso city, 164 km south of Bamako, and 23 km from the Guinea border. The commune covers about 1,594 km² and includes the town and 29 villages, with a population of roughly 51,700 at the 2009 census. Yanfolila is the main town of Wassoulou, the traditional name for the southwest corner of the Sikasso Region, an area known for its distinctive Wassoulou music and a strong hunting tradition.
