Shah Alam
Selangor, Malaysia
Why visit Shah Alam?
Shah Alam is the state capital of Selangor, a planned city located 25 km west of Kuala Lumpur. It was established in 1978 after Selangor ceded Kuala Lumpur to the federal government. The city is dominated by the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque (the Blue Mosque), one of the largest mosques in Southeast Asia with its striking blue-and-silver dome. Shah Alam is also home to the Shah Alam Lake Garden, the National Botanical Park, and i-City — a theme park with LED-lit trees. The city is quieter and more orderly than Kuala Lumpur, with wide boulevards and ample green space.
