Yan (Jawi: يان) is a town in the Yan district of Kedah, located on the western coast about 30 km southwest of Alor Setar. The town sits at the base of the Gunung Jerai massif, with the mountain rising dramatically behind it. Yan is a coastal agricultural town known for its rice paddies, fruit orchards, and Pantai Yan (Yan Beach). It is also the starting point for the Yan Trail — one of the popular hiking routes up Gunung Jerai (986 m).

By Plane
The nearest airport is Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (AOR IATA) in Alor Setar (40 km northeast).
By Train
No train station. The nearest is Alor Setar (30 km northeast).
By Car / Road
From Alor Setar, take Route K8 southwest — about 30 minutes. Buses from Alor Setar to Yan are limited.
Yan town is small and walkable. A car is needed for the mountain trail and beach.

Gunung Jerai — The mountain dominates the landscape. The Yan Trail trailhead is near the town.
Pantai Yan (Yan Beach) — A quiet beach with basic facilities and food stalls. Good for picnics.
Yan River estuary — Fishing boats moored along the river.
Paddy fields — The rice landscape between Yan and Gunung Jerai is scenic.
Hike Gunung Jerai — The Yan Trail climbs about 4–5 hours to the summit. A guide is recommended.
