Baling
Kedah, Malaysia
Why visit Baling?
Baling is a town in eastern Kedah, about 40 km east of Sungai Petani and 90 km northeast of Penang. It sits in a valley between forested hills and is known for its natural attractions — hot springs, waterfalls, and the prominent Gunung Baling, a limestone hill rising above the town. The name "Baling" means "mud" in Thai, reflecting the area's marshy history. Baling gained historical notoriety for the 1974 Baling Uprising peasant protests. The town is a gateway for eco-tourism activities in the surrounding hills.
