Why visit Chiradzulu?
Chiradzulu is the administrative capital of Chiradzulu District in the Shire Highlands of southern Malawi, about 20 km northeast of Blantyre. The district (761 km², population around 357,000) and town take their name from Chiradzulu Mountain, which rises to 1,773 m and is the third-highest peak in southern Malawi after Mulanje and Zomba. The area holds a significant place in Malawian history as the home of John Chilembwe, the Baptist pastor who led the 1915 Chilembwe uprising against colonial rule; his home and church are located in the district.
