Lake Malawi National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site located around Cape Maclear at the southern end of Lake Malawi. It protects the lake waters and shoreline, recognised for the extraordinary diversity of cichlid fish — over 1,000 species, most of which are endemic. How do you get there?

By Car / Road

The park is accessed via Cape Maclear, about 30 minutes south of Mangochi. The road from Mangochi is partly unpaved but passable in a regular car in dry conditions.

The park is explored on foot, by boat, or by snorkelling. Cape Maclear village is walkable.
