Why visit Liwonde National Park?

Liwonde National Park is a 550 km² protected area in southern Malawi along the Shire River. It is one of the best wildlife parks in the country, known for large herds of elephants, abundant hippos and crocodiles, and an extraordinary variety of birdlife. Boat safaris along the Shire River are the highlight of a visit, offering close encounters with wildlife from the water.

The dry season from May to October is the best time for wildlife viewing.

How do you get there?

By Car / Road

The park is accessed from Liwonde town, about 2 hours north of Blantyre on the M3 road. The park entrance is well signposted.

Game drives and boat safaris are the main ways to explore. Walking safaris are available with armed guides.
