About Skuodas

Skuodas is a small town in the northern corner of Klaipėdos apskritis, near the Latvian border. With a population of around 6,000, it is the administrative centre of the Skuodas District Municipality. The town sits on the banks of the Bartuva River and is surrounded by flat farmland and coastal pine forests.

The region has a complex border history, having shifted between Lithuanian, Latvian, and Polish control over the centuries. Skuodas received its town charter in 1572 and has long served as a local market centre. The town is known for its traditional Lithuanian festivals and its proximity to the Baltic coast.

The climate is maritime, with cool summers and mild winters. The best time to visit is June through September, when the coastal forests are at their most inviting and outdoor events are frequent. Winters are damp and cold, though the snow-dusted landscape has its own charm.
