Why visit Padysha-Ata?

Padysha-Ata (Kyrgyz: Падыша-Ата) is a nature reserve in Jalal-Abad Region, located in the Chatkal Valley about 80 km west of Jalal-Abad city. The reserve covers approximately 130 km² of mountain terrain, including juniper forests, alpine meadows, and rocky slopes.

The area is named after a sacred spring (Padysha-Ata Spring) believed to have healing properties, attracting pilgrims. The reserve protects populations of Menzbier's marmot, snow leopard, and Tien Shan ibex. Summer (June–September) is the best time to visit.

By Plane

Osh International Airport (OSS IATA) is about 200 km south.

By Car / Road

Access from Jalal-Abad via Kerben requires a 4WD, about 4-5 hours. The road is rough. Entry may require a permit from the reserve administration.

The reserve is explored on foot.

Where to eat?

Self-cater with camping provisions. No restaurants or food services exist within the reserve. Bring a camping stove.

The Padysha-Ata spring provides water, but purification is recommended (boiling, filters, or tablets). Bring bottled water from Kerben.
