Why visit Kandara?
Kandara is a town in southern Murang'a County, in Kenya's tea- and coffee-growing Central Highlands, roughly 10 km south of Kigumo and 30 km north of Thika. It is the headquarters of Kandara Division/Constituency, whose first MP, Bildad Kaggia, was a prominent Mau Mau-era political figure known for his radicalism and role in Kenya's independence movement. The town's weekly market days are Monday and Thursday, when smallholder farmers from the surrounding area sell produce.
