Maua

Maua is a busy market town in the eastern highlands of Meru County, serving as the commercial centre for the Igembe region. It is one of the main hubs for the miraa (khat) trade in Kenya, with the stimulant crop widely cultivated on the surrounding fertile slopes. The town has a lively market atmosphere with significant trading activity.

Maua is connected by road to Meru town via the B6 highway, about 30 km. Matatus run frequently between Meru and Maua (about 45 minutes). Roads are generally tarmacked.

The town is walkable for the most part. Boda-bodas and matatus provide local transport for longer distances.
