About Ono
Ono (大野) is a city in eastern Fukui Prefecture, set in a mountain basin surrounded by the Ryohaku Mountains. Known as "Little Kyoto," Ono preserves a well-maintained old castle town atmosphere with samurai residences, historic temples, and the striking Ono Castle perched on a hilltop. In winter, when the basin fills with fog, the castle appears to float above the clouds, earning it the nickname "Castle in the Sky." Ono is also known for its excellent soba noodles. Summers are hot; winters bring heavy snow.
