Bath
Saint Thomas, Jamaica
Why visit Bath?
Bath is a small town in Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica, located on the southeastern coast approximately 20 km east of Morant Bay. The town is best known for the Bath Fountain mineral hot springs, which have been a popular attraction since the 18th century. The naturally heated mineral waters are believed to have therapeutic properties and draw visitors seeking relaxation and relief from skin and joint ailments.
Bath is also home to the Bath Botanical Gardens, established in 1779, making it the oldest botanical garden in the Western Hemisphere. The gardens feature a collection of tropical plants, including species introduced to Jamaica from around the world during the colonial era. The combination of the mineral springs and the botanical gardens makes Bath one of the most historically significant sites in Saint Thomas Parish.
The town itself is small and quiet, with a population of a few thousand. The surrounding area is agricultural, with banana, coconut, and citrus cultivation. The climate is tropical, with average temperatures of 27–30°C and a rainy season from May to November.
