Gordon Town

Saint Andrew, Jamaica

Why visit Gordon Town?

Gordon Town is a small mountain village in Saint Andrew parish, nestled in the valley of the Hope River at the foot of the Blue Mountains. It sits at approximately 300 m elevation, about 12 km north of Kingston's Papine roundabout, and serves as the main gateway to the Blue Mountain Peak trail and the highland communities beyond. The village has a relaxed, rural feel despite its proximity to the capital, with a cluster of small shops, cookshops, and a popular riverside dining spot.

Gordon Town's significance is primarily as a transit point and base camp for Blue Mountain hikers. The road north from Papine climbs steeply through the Hope River gorge, passing the University of the West Indies Mona campus, the Hope Botanical Gardens, and the Castleton Botanical Gardens before reaching Gordon Town. From here, the road continues up to Irish Town, Newcastle, and eventually the Blue Mountain Peak trailhead at Penlyne Castle.
