Mavis Bank
Saint Andrew, Jamaica
Why visit Mavis Bank?
Mavis Bank is a small farming community deep in the Blue Mountains of Saint Andrew parish, best known as the home of the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory — one of Jamaica's largest and most respected Blue Mountain coffee processors. The village sits at approximately 600 m (2,000 ft) elevation in the valley of the Yallahs River, surrounded by coffee plantations and steep, forested hills. It is also one of the main access points for the Blue Mountain Peak trail via Whitfield Hall.
The Mavis Bank Coffee Factory (MBCF), established in 1923, processes coffee from over 6,000 small farmers across the Blue Mountain region. The factory offers tours that explain the journey from cherry to export bean, and visitors can taste and purchase freshly roasted Blue Mountain coffee on site. The village is remote by Jamaican standards — reached by a winding mountain road from Gordon Town or from Buff Bay on the north coast — and retains a quiet, rural character.
