Irish Town

Saint Andrew, Jamaica

Why visit Irish Town?

Irish Town is a quiet highland village in the Blue Mountains of Saint Andrew parish, sitting at approximately 900 m (3,000 ft) elevation. The village is known for its cool climate, mountain lodges, and proximity to some of Jamaica's finest Blue Mountain coffee plantations. The name likely derives from Irish indentured servants who settled here during the colonial era, though the village today is a sleepy Jamaican farming community surrounded by coffee groves and tropical forest.

The drive from Gordon Town to Irish Town climbs steadily through increasingly lush vegetation, with views of the Kingston plain below. Several mountain lodges and plantation houses in the area offer accommodation and serve as bases for hiking, birdwatching, and coffee tours. The village itself consists of a few houses, a church, and a small shop or two.
