Why visit Malard?
Malard (ملارد), capital of Malard County in western Tehran province, sits roughly 35 km west of central Tehran at an elevation around 1,152 m, in the plain below the Alborz foothills. The modern city was formed in 1995 when the village of Malard merged with neighboring Sar Asiab-e Malard; Malard County itself was only separated out from Shahriar County in 2009, with Malard as its seat. Growth has been rapid — the city's population rose from 228,673 at the 2006 census to 281,027 by 2016 — reflecting its role as a fast-growing residential and commuter suburb on Tehran's western edge rather than a historic or leisure destination.
