Shiraz
Fārs, Iran
Why visit Shiraz?
Shiraz (شیراز) is the capital of Fārs Province and one of Iran's most beloved cities. Known as the city of poets, gardens, and wine (though alcohol is no longer legal), Shiraz is the heart of Persian culture. It is the birthplace of the poets Hafez and Sa'di, and home to stunning Islamic architecture, including the Nasir al-Molk Pink Mosque. The ancient Achaemenid capital of Persepolis lies just 60 km northeast.
Shiraz has a mild semi-arid climate with four distinct seasons. Spring (March–May) is the best time to visit, when the gardens are in bloom and the weather is perfect. Autumn is also pleasant. Summers can be hot (up to 40°C) and winters are cool with occasional rain.
