Meulaboh
Sumatera, Indonesia
Why visit Meulaboh?
Meulaboh is the capital of West Aceh Regency, a coastal city on Sumatra's west coast and a fishing and agricultural center. It was one of the places hit hardest by the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami — by some accounts the most-affected city of the disaster — which destroyed its old town center and port and forced planners to rebuild with residential zones set back from the water. Today Meulaboh functions as a transit stop along the west-coast road and a regional hub for West Aceh.
