Why visit Binjai?
Binjai is a city in North Sumatra bordering Medan, of which it functions as a satellite/suburb within the greater Medan metropolitan area. Its name comes from the binjai fruit tree, under which the original riverside settlement is said to have been founded on the Bingai River. Binjai is best known today for rambutan cultivation — it is nicknamed "Kota Rambutan" (Rambutan City) — with several square kilometres of the city given over to rambutan orchards.
