Poso

Sulawesi, Indonesia

Why visit Poso?

Poso is the capital of Poso Regency in Central Sulawesi, located on the eastern coast of the island on the shores of the Gulf of Tomini. The town has a population of around 50,000 and is the main transit point for travellers heading to Tentena, Lake Poso, and the Bada Valley.

Poso was the scene of sectarian conflict between Christian and Muslim communities in the early 2000s, but the town has since returned to peace. Today it is a quiet, relaxed town with a beautiful lake, mountainous backdrop, and access to the stunning highlands of Central Sulawesi.

The climate is tropical with a dry season June–October.
