Noida
Uttar Pradesh, India
Why visit Noida?
Noida — short for New Okhla Industrial Development Authority — is a planned satellite city of Delhi, lying just across the Yamuna River in the west of Uttar Pradesh and forming part of the National Capital Region (NCR). It is Uttar Pradesh's most modern city, a popular location for businesses looking to escape Delhi's congestion and steep rents, and it is laid out in a tidy grid of numbered "sectors." Noida is known for some of the best roads in the NCR, with good street lighting and reflective cat's-eyes that keep visibility high at night.
Unlike the historic pilgrimage and Mughal towns elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh, Noida is a contemporary city of corporate offices, IT parks, film and television studios, and large shopping malls. It is comparatively low on traffic and pollution by Indian standards, and has kept up a notable green cover with parks, gardens and tree-lined avenues. The adjoining planned township of Greater Noida extends the development to the south-east.
Noida shares Delhi's climate: very hot summers (April-June often above 40°C), a monsoon from July to September, and cool, sometimes foggy winters when air quality can dip. The most comfortable months to visit are roughly October to March. The commercial and social heart is around Sector 18 and the Atta Market.

By Plane
The nearest airport is Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), reached from Noida in roughly an hour. The most convenient public link is the Delhi Metro Magenta Line, which connects Noida to Terminal 1; taxis and ride-hailing cars are the alternative. (The new Noida International Airport at Jewar, to the south-east, is under development.)
By Train
Noida itself is served primarily by the Delhi Metro rather than mainline railways. For long-distance trains, travellers use the major Delhi-area railway stations — New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar — which are reached from Noida by metro, bus or taxi. Within the city the metro is the practical rail option.
By Car / Road
The DND Flyway toll bridge connects Noida directly to Delhi and is a smooth drive; note that black-plated commercial vehicles, including rented cars, may not use it unless the Uttar Pradesh road tax of ₹240/day has already been paid, as it cannot be paid at the bridge. The Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways loop around Delhi and link Noida to surrounding cities such as Faridabad and Ghaziabad as a bypass. Buses run by DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) and UPSRTC connect Noida with Delhi and beyond.
Noida is well served by rail-based transit. The Delhi Metro's Blue Line has numerous stops across the city, and the Magenta Line adds further coverage and the airport link. Noida also has its own metro, the Noida Metro (Aqua Line), connecting the city's centre to Greater Noida. Buses (mostly from Delhi) and auto- and cycle-rickshaws fill the gaps, though coverage is patchy in places. Uber and Ola ride-hailing apps are popular and reliable for getting around the sectors and out to Agra, Jaipur and other destinations. Within sectors, walking between the malls and markets is easy.
What are the things to do?
Noida's sights are dispersed among its parks and modern institutions rather than concentrated in a historic core.
Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Sector 126 — India's first private museum of art, established in 2010, exhibiting modern and contemporary works; open Tu-Su 10:30AM-6:30PM, free entry.
Okhla Bird Sanctuary, on the DND Flyway (metro: Okhla Bird Sanctuary / Botanical Garden) — a wetland haven for over 300 bird species, especially waterbirds, on the Yamuna.
Noida Film City — a major hub for Indian film and television production, the location for many Bollywood and Indian films.
Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden — a large green memorial complex along the Yamuna with a mini-museum honouring figures who worked for equality and social justice; entry ₹20.
Stupa 18 Gallery, Sector 104 — a contemporary art gallery with monthly exhibitions and works for sale; open W-M 11AM-8PM.
Worlds of Wonder, Sector 38A, Entertainment City — a large theme park with both a water park and an amusement park (and a go-karting track), Noida's headline family attraction.
Catch a film or a cricket match — the city has numerous multiplexes in its malls, and the Noida Cricket Stadium hosts matches.
Learn an art — Ishaan School of Art-n-Music, Sector 12, offers recognised courses in Indian classical, Western and Bollywood dance, vocal and instrumental music, and drawing and painting.
Birdwatch at the Okhla Bird Sanctuary in the cooler months, when migratory waterbirds gather along the Yamuna.

Where to drink?
Note that alcohol in Uttar Pradesh is somewhat pricier than just across the line in Delhi. The main nightlife district is the Atta Market in Sector 18, where the city's bars and clubs cluster. Flluid, the slick two-floor bar and nightclub at the Mosaic Hotel (Sector 18), and Quantum at Centre Stage Mall are among the better-known nightspots, with Mamouchee (Centre Stage Mall) good for cocktails and Lebanese food. Cafés and juice bars are plentiful in the malls. Drink bottled or filtered water rather than untreated tap water.
