Why visit Mosfellsbaer?
Mosfellsbær is a picturesque town just northeast of Reykjavík, set in a valley between volcanic mountains. It is the gateway to the scenic Mosfellsdalur valley, where the legendary 13th-century chieftain and saga author Snorri Sturluson once lived. The town offers a beautiful mix of urban convenience and immediate access to nature, with lava fields, salmon rivers, and hiking trails right on its doorstep. The 19th-century poet Grímur Thomsen called Mosfellsdalur 'the most beautiful valley in Iceland'.
Climate
Same as Reykjavík — subpolar oceanic, cool summers (9–14°C), mild winters (−1–3°C), frequent rain and cloud. The valley can be windier than the capital.
