Kopavogur
Höfuðborgarsvæði, Iceland
Why visit Kopavogur?
Kópavogur is Iceland's second-largest municipality, immediately south of Reykjavík in the Capital Region. Despite its suburban character, Kópavogur has several unique attractions, including the striking Kópavogskirkja church — an architectural landmark shaped like a volcanic crater — and the excellent Gerðarsafn art museum. The town grew rapidly during the post-war construction boom and today offers a pleasant mix of residential areas, green spaces, and coastal walking paths along the bay of Kópavogur.
Climate
Same as Reykjavík — subpolar oceanic, cool summers (10–15°C), mild winters (−1–3°C), frequent rain and cloud cover, with changeable weather year-round.
