Sacatepéquez, Guatemala

Why visit San Lucas Sacatepequez?

San Lucas Sacatepéquez is a bustling market town of approximately 35,000 people located about 15 km northwest of Antigua Guatemala, situated at roughly 2,050 metres elevation along the Pan-American Highway (CA-1). It serves as a commercial hub for the western highlands and is known for its large daily market that attracts vendors and buyers from across the region.

The town has a cooler climate than Antigua, with temperatures averaging 14–21°C. Mornings can be foggy and chilly, particularly from November to February. San Lucas is more of a working town than a tourist destination, but its vibrant market and authentic highland atmosphere make it worthwhile for travellers seeking local colour.
