Gulripshi

Gulripshi (Abkhaz: Гәылрыҧшь, Russian: Гулрыпш, Georgian: გულრიფში) is a small town just southeast of Sukhumi, serving as the administrative centre of the Gulripshi District in Abkhazia. It is a primarily residential and agricultural area, known for its citrus plantations and tea fields. The town's proximity to Sukhumi makes it a convenient base for visitors who want a quieter setting near the capital.

By car

Gulripshi is located just off the M-27 highway, about 15 km southeast of Sukhumi centre.

By bus

Frequent marshrutkas from Sukhumi's central market pass through Gulripshi, taking about 20 minutes.

The town is small enough to walk around. Taxis can be hired in Sukhumi for day trips to the area.

The Gulripshi District Museum offers a small collection of local historical artefacts. The Church of St George has a modest presence. The surrounding countryside is dominated by citrus groves and tea plantations.

Visit the nearby coastal areas for swimming. Explore the agricultural landscape on foot or by bicycle. Take a day trip into the hills above Gulripshi for views of the sea.

Small roadside cafés serve simple Abkhaz fare. For a wider selection of restaurants, head into Sukhumi.

Fresh-squeezed citrus juice is a treat in season. Locally produced wine is available.
