Bensa
Sidama, Ethiopia
Why visit Bensa?
Bensa is a district (and its namesake town) on the eastern edge of the Sidama Region, running up against the Harenna Forest — Ethiopia's largest indigenous forest. It is an unusually high-elevation coffee district even by Sidama standards, with farms reaching up to about 2,200–2,300 m, and its coffees (often sold under estate names like Daye Bensa) have built a strong specialty-coffee reputation internationally for complex, fruit-forward cups, sometimes with notable berry or stone-fruit notes. Several private processors and grower groups in Bensa and the neighboring Arbegona district have driven this reputation over recent years. The landscape is high, green, and often misty, shaped by dense coffee forest interplanted with enset (false banana).

Coffee farms and processing sites: Bensa's reputation rests on its coffee estates and washing stations, though visiting individual sites generally requires arrangement through a grower, cooperative, or specialty-coffee tour operator rather than casual drop-in.
Highland and forest scenery: The district's high elevation and proximity to the Harenna Forest make for dramatic green, misty landscapes.
Coffee-origin visits: Specialty coffee buyers and enthusiasts sometimes arrange farm and washing-station visits through importers or local grower groups.
