Chifra

Afar, Ethiopia

Why visit Chifra?

Chifra is a remote settlement in the northern Afar Region of Ethiopia, situated in the heart of the Danakil Depression. It is one of the hottest inhabited places in the world and lies along traditional salt-caravan routes. The town serves as a staging point for camel trains heading south with salt slabs mined from the northern salt flats.
