Why visit Awash?
Awash is a small town in the Afar Region of Ethiopia, located at a strategic crossroads on Highway 1 where the road from Addis Ababa splits toward Dire Dawa and the Afar interior. It sits near the Awash River, which provides a green ribbon through the otherwise arid landscape.
The town is best known as the gateway to Awash National Park, one of Ethiopia's oldest and most accessible wildlife reserves. Awash has a relaxed atmosphere and serves primarily as a transport stop for travellers heading east or north.
