Toila

Ida-Virumaa, Estonia

Why visit Toila?

Toila is a small coastal town in northeastern Estonia, located about 40 km west of Narva and 10 km northeast of Jõhvi. It sits on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, surrounded by pine forests and sandy beaches, and has long been a popular weekend and holiday destination for Estonians from Ida-Virumaa county.

The town's main landmark is the magnificent Toila-Oru Park, a grand landscape park created in the late 19th century around the Oru Manor. The manor house itself was tragically destroyed by fire in 1942, but the park — with its terraces, staircases, ponds, and sculptures — survives as one of the finest examples of Baltic German park architecture in Estonia. During the Soviet era, a government holiday home was built on the manor site, and the area remained an exclusive retreat.

For visitors, Toila offers a peaceful coastal escape with a fascinating park to explore, sea views, and a relaxed summer atmosphere. The town is a popular destination for day trips from Jõhvi and Narva. The best time to visit is May–September, with peak beach season in July and August.
