About Kaberneeme
Kaberneeme is a small coastal village on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland, in the Kuusalu parish of eastern Harjumaa. With a permanent population of perhaps 200, it is a classic Estonian "summer village" — a collection of wooden houses, holiday cottages, and overgrown gardens lining the sandy shore of Kaberneeme Bay. During the summer months, the population swells several times over as Tallinners arrive at their country homes and as visitors come for the long, shallow beach.
The village's history is tied to the sea and to fishing. A small fishing fleet still works out of the harbour, and the distinctive smokehouses along the shore produce some of the best hot-smoked fish in Harjumaa. Kaberneeme sits on the southern edge of Lahemaa National Park, and the coastal hiking trail from Kaberneeme to Käsmu (about 10 km west) along the clifftops and through juniper heath is one of the most scenic short hikes in the region.
Kaberneeme is first and foremost a summer destination — the beach season runs from mid-June to mid-August. Outside these months, most services are closed and the village is very quiet. Those who visit in May–June or September–October will have the beach and the coastal trails largely to themselves, though the water will be too cold for comfortable swimming.

Things to do
Kaberneeme Beach — A 1.5 km stretch of fine pale sand sloping gently into the shallow waters of the bay. Excellent for families with young children (no sudden drops). Lifeguards in July.
Kaberneeme harbour — A small working harbour with fishing boats, a pier for walking, and views across the bay to the Käsmu peninsula.
Kaberneeme coastal meadow — Behind the beach, a traditional coastal meadow with wildflowers in June–July, grazed by sheep. The meadow is a protected habitat type.
Swimming — The shallow, sandy-bottomed bay is warm by Estonian standards in July–August. The best swimming is at high tide.
Smoked fish tasting — Kaberneeme's fish smokehouses sell fresh hot-smoked herring, flounder, and mackerel. The smokehouse at the harbour is the most reliable.
Coastal hiking to Käsmu — A 10 km hike west along the coast, passing sea cliffs, juniper heaths, and the abandoned Soviet border installations near Käsmu.
Kayaking — The calm waters of Kaberneeme Bay are good for beginners. Kayaks can be rented from the Käsmu harbour (5 km west).
