About Agordat
Agordat is a historic town in the Gash-Barka Region, once an important railway terminus on the line connecting Asmara to the western lowlands and Sudan. Founded during the Italian colonial period, it retains traces of early 20th-century architecture and a grid street layout. The town lies in the Barka River valley and serves as a market centre for the surrounding agricultural and pastoral communities. Its mixed population includes Tigre, Beni Amer, and other ethnic groups.
