Abu Kebir
Ash Sharqīyah, Egypt
Why visit Abu Kebir?
Abu Kebir (Abu Kabir) is a city in Sharqia Governorate in Egypt's Nile Delta, roughly 80 km from Cairo. Its population has grown steadily — from about 68,000 in 1986 to an estimated 165,000 by 2023 — driven by both its urban market center and surrounding rural, agricultural suburbs. Much of the population traces roots to the Hazeel tribe, Arab migrants who settled the area for agriculture. Notable natives include the chemist Mostafa El-Sayed.
