Why visit Kom Hamada?
Kom Hamada is a district (markaz) town in Beheira Governorate, on the Rashid (Rosetta) branch of the Nile, bordered by Itay El Barud to the north and Monufia Governorate to the south. It was formerly known as Menyet Asami before being renamed Kom Hamada in the early Ottoman era, around 1526. The district headquarters were originally at nearby Nageela, but moved to Kom Hamada in 1902 because the village had a railway station and sat more centrally among the surrounding settlements. Archaeological remains, including pottery and stone blocks from the Ptolemaic era, have been found at nearby ancient mounds such as Tell Makboura, Tell El Jil, Kom El Adda, and Tell Truhgi. The district is known for extensive fertile farmland producing fruit and vegetables alongside the Delta's staple crops of cotton, rice, and maize.
