Shalateen

Al Baḩr al Aḩmar, Egypt

Why visit Shalateen?

Shalateen is the largest town in the Halaib Triangle, a border area disputed between Egypt and Sudan (administered by Egypt) at the southern end of the Red Sea coast. Rather than a dive resort, it is best known for its camel market, the largest in Egypt and the country's main gateway for camels trekked overland from Sudan by Rashaida, Bishari, and Ababda traders — a centuries-old trade largely unchanged in character.
