Befale
Tshuapa, Democratic Republic of the Congo
Why visit Befale?
Befale is a small community and the administrative center of Befale Territory in Tshuapa Province, in the Congo Basin rainforest. It lies on the road linking Boende, the provincial capital, to Basankusu in neighboring Équateur Province. As of a 2012 estimate its population was under 4,000. Verifiable published detail on the town beyond this is very limited. As with the rest of Tshuapa, the wider local economy is understood to rest on subsistence agriculture, fishing, and small-scale trade, and the climate is tropical, hot and humid year-round with a wetter and a drier season.
