Why visit Pomos?

Pomos (Greek: Πωμός) is a coastal village of roughly 500 inhabitants located on the northwestern coast of Cyprus in the Pafos District. Situated 60 km north of Pafos city and 20 km northeast of Polis Chrysochous, the settlement sits on sea cliffs facing Chrysochou Bay, directly below the forested slopes of the Paphos Forest and Tilliria mountain region.

The village is historically significant as the origin site of the Idol of Pomos, a Chalcolithic stone figurine dating to around 3000 BC. The cruciform statuette depicts a figure with outstretched arms wearing a matching pendant around its neck, interpreted by archaeologists as a fertility symbol. It serves as a symbol of Cypriot heritage and appears on the country’s €1 and €2 coins. The original artefact is kept at the Cyprus Museum in Nicosia.

Pomos experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Summer daytime temperatures from June through August range between 30°C and 35°C (86°F–95°F), tempered by offshore sea breezes. Winter daytime temperatures from December through February average 15°C to 18°C (59°F–64°F), accompanied by seasonal rainfall averaging 80 to 110 mm per month.
