Why visit Guisa?

Guisa is a small mountain town in Granma Province, located in the foothills of the Sierra Maestra about 20 km south of Bayamo. The town has a population of approximately 4,000 and sits at a higher elevation than the provincial capital, offering cooler temperatures and lush vegetation. Guisa has historical significance as a site of revolutionary battles during the 1950s.

The surrounding landscape transitions from the flat agricultural plains around Bayamo to increasingly mountainous terrain. Coffee and fruit cultivation are important local activities. The town has a peaceful, rural atmosphere with a modest central area.

Tropical mountain climate, cooler and wetter than Bayamo. Dry season November–April, rainy season May–October. Temperatures are pleasant year-round at the higher elevation.

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest airport is in Bayamo (BYM), about 25 km north.

By Car / Road

Guisa is about 20 km south of Bayamo via a secondary road (approximately 30 minutes). The road is paved but narrow and winding as it enters the mountains. Local transport is infrequent; a private taxi or colectivo is the best option.

Guisa is small and walkable. For excursions into the surrounding mountains, arrange a guide or horseback ride through your casa particular.
