Why visit San Cristobal?

San Cristóbal is a municipality and town in Artemisa Province, western Cuba, located approximately 70 km west of Havana. The town has a history stretching back to the colonial era and was historically an important stop on the road between Havana and the western provinces.

The municipality has a population of around 35,000 and features a central plaza, colonial-era architecture, and a parish church. The town is set in a predominantly agricultural region with sugarcane and tobacco as the main crops. The surrounding landscape includes flat farmland and gentle hills.

Tropical climate with a wet season (May–October) and a drier season (November–April). Temperatures range from 25–31°C throughout the year.

How do you get there?

By Plane

José Martí International Airport (HAV) in Havana is the nearest major airport, approximately 70 km east. A taxi costs around CUC 55–65 and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.

By Car / Road

San Cristóbal is accessible from Havana via the Carretera Central or the A1 autopista with local road connections. The drive takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. Local buses and colectivos serve the route intermittently.

The town centre is compact and walkable. Bici-taxis provide local transport within town. For trips to surrounding areas, taxis or colectivos are needed.
