Cervantes

Cartago, Costa Rica

Why visit Cervantes?

Cervantes is a small town and district in the Turrialba canton of Cartago Province, Costa Rica, situated in the lush lowlands where the Central Valley descends toward the Caribbean plain. The town serves as a local hub for the surrounding agricultural area, which is dominated by sugar cane, citrus, and livestock. Cervantes has a quiet, rural character that contrasts with the more touristed areas further north.

The town sits at roughly 600 m elevation, giving it a warmer, more tropical climate than the Central Valley highlands. Temperatures range from 22–28°C, and rainfall is significant year-round due to Caribbean weather patterns, with the heaviest rains from September to November. The driest months are February and March.

Cervantes is primarily a transit point rather than a destination in its own right, but its position between Turrialba and the lowlands makes it a useful base for exploring the Reventazón River valley and the agricultural landscapes of eastern Cartago.
