Orotina
Alajuela, Costa Rica
Why visit Orotina?
Orotina is a small agricultural town in the southern lowlands of Alajuela Province, known as the "Fruit Capital of Costa Rica" for its abundant tropical fruit production. Located at about 200 metres elevation in the warm Pacific transition zone, Orotina has a hot, tropical climate with temperatures averaging 28–34 °C. The town serves as a crossroads between the Central Valley and the Central Pacific coast.
The economy is driven by citrus, mangoes, papayas, and other tropical fruits, as well as sugarcane. Orotina has a vibrant weekly market and a relaxed, authentic character. It is not a tourist destination per se, but is a practical stopover for travellers heading to Jacó or Manuel Antonio, and its proximity to Carara National Park makes it a convenient base for nature lovers.
