About Makotipoko
Makotipoko is a fishing village on the Congo River in southern Plateaux department. The village sits on the riverbank, with the DRC visible on the opposite shore. The population lives by fishing and small-scale trade, with pirogues serving as the primary means of transport. The surrounding landscape transitions from riverine forest on the banks to Batéké savanna as you move inland.
The climate is tropical, with a dry season from June to September and a rainy season from October to May. The river level can rise significantly during the rains.
