About Bouanela

Bouanela is a remote forest village deep in the interior of Likouala department, in the Likouala basin. The village is surrounded by pristine equatorial rainforest and is accessible only by pirogue via the region's intricate river system. The population lives by fishing, hunting, and small-scale agriculture in clearings carved from the forest.

The climate is equatorial, hot and humid year-round with heavy rainfall. The drier season (June–September) offers the best window for access. Bouanela is an expedition-level destination suitable only for self-sufficient wilderness travellers.
