Baodi

Baodi (宝坻; Bǎodǐ) is a district in northern Tianjin Municipality, about 60 km north of Tianjin city centre and 80 km southeast of Beijing. Historically an agricultural county, Baodi has developed into a suburban district with a growing reputation for agritourism, hot springs, and countryside retreats. The area is known for its lakes, wetlands, and rural landscapes that offer a quiet escape from the intensity of Beijing and Tianjin. The Chaobai River flows through the district, and several reservoirs and wetland parks provide opportunities for bird-watching and fishing. The climate is temperate with cold winters and warm summers. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are the best times to visit.

By Plane

Tianjin Binhai International Airport (TSN) is 75 km south (1 hr by taxi, ¥150–200). Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) is about 100 km northwest (1.5 hr by taxi, ¥200–300).

By Train

Baodi Railway Station has regular trains from Tianjin (1 hr, ¥20–30) and Beijing (1.5 hr, ¥30–40). The station is about 5 km from Baodi town centre.

By Car / Road

Baodi is on the S1 Jinji Expressway (Tianjin–Jizhou), about 1 hour from Tianjin city centre and 1.5 hours from Beijing via the G1 Jingha Expressway and S1. Long-distance buses from Tianjin run regularly (¥25–35, 1.5 hr).

Baodi town is compact. Taxis and local buses are available for reaching the outlying attractions such as the hot springs and wetland parks. Hiring a private car from Tianjin or Beijing is the most flexible option for a day trip.

• Chaobai River Wetland Park — A riverside park with walking trails, bird-watching platforms, and picnic areas. Free.

• Baodi Hot Springs — Several hot spring resorts in the district offer natural geothermal baths. Prices vary by resort (¥80–200 for access).

• Baodi Museum — Local museum covering the history and culture of the Baodi area. Tue–Sun 9AM–5PM, free.

• Shijiuwo Reservoir — A large reservoir with scenic views and fishing opportunities. Free.

• Baodi Agricultural Parks — Several farms offer pick-your-own fruit, vegetable harvesting, and farm stays.

• Hot spring bathing — The main attraction in Baodi. Several well-equipped hot spring resorts.

• Bird-watching — The Chaobai River and reservoirs attract migratory birds, especially in spring and autumn.

• Fruit picking — Apple, pear, and peach orchards near Baodi offer seasonal picking (August–October).

• Cycling — Quiet country roads around Baodi are suitable for leisure cycling.

• Farm restaurants — Several agritourism farms offer meals made with freshly harvested local ingredients. ¥50–100.
• Freshwater fish — Fish from the Chaobai River and reservoirs, steamed or braised. ¥40–80.
